Our Little Fish
Yesterday was Kaitlyn's last swim lesson for a bit. She's been going for the last 7 1/2 weeks and it's amazing to see how quickly she has grown to love her 'big pool swim days' and how confident she's become in water. She started out with two floats on front and three on back. Yesterday she was down to just 2 1/2 floats on her back. She's motoring around the pool like a pro, jumping off the diving board (with a little help from Mommy), slip sliding down the slide, and overall just having a blast! I'm a bit sad to see this end and will definitely start her up in the spring again (and keeping my fingers and toes crossed that she loves it as much then as she does now).

Looking for a good flick?
Ryan and I had a heavenly weekend at the Westin in Bellevue. Nana and Papa took Kaitlyn for the weekend so we could enjoy a little time to ourselves. And that we did! One of the things we did was take in a movie. And then on Sunday night, after picking up Kaitlyn, we watched yet another movie with her. Thus, I couldn't resist blogging some movie reviews.
The American
This was our second choice but unfortunately, The Town was sold out except for front row seats. After being quite excited to see The Town, I'll admit there was some let down walking into The American. But hey, it's a George Clooney flick so at least he'd be nice to look at for the next two hours. Thus, Ryan and I settled in with popcorn, a soda, and waited for the screen to dazzle us. Unfortunately, it did not. I didn't know a whole lot about the movie but perhaps if I had my expectations would've been different. It was S L O W....I mean painfully so. And for those of you who know me, you know I like people to get to the point...quickly! This movie never did get to a point. It had very little narrative but did have some nice scenery from Italy. Anyways, mixed bag here. Ryan definitely liked it better than I did. Go in expecting an independent-type of artsy movie and you'll be better off than I was.
Once Upon a Potty
This was our Sunday pick with Kaitlyn. Yes, folks, she's showing interest in the potty these days. Auntie Jen sent the DVD our way and thus, we had a family viewing. And boy oh boy, I'm not quite sure what to say about this one. So many wonderful, amusing parts - the potty song, the animated baby named Prudence bending over so we can see where her poo comes out, and the different uses for the potty (a bird bath...No! a flower vase...No! a hat...NO! which by the way is the worst thing they could mention to a kid...sure, I can just see it, after pooping and peeing the kid thinks, 'hey, I'll put it on my head now!'). Kaitlyn was quite intrigued, I think Ryan was horrified, and I'm sitting there trying to hold back the tears of laughter. Thus, yet another movie with mixed reviews. I can say one thing though, this isn't a dinner time watch.

All about Kaitlyn's Sleepover
September 2010
Kaitlyn arrived around 4:00 on Friday for her first sleepover with Nana and Papa. It was a rainy night so we had to drive to Applebees for dinner! KP had some macaroni and cheese, some of Nana's vegetables and loved the mozarella sticks. She was a perfect little gal........got a red balloon.......and a special ice cream treat when we got home. We read a couple books, played with legos and soon it was time for bed. She knew it was a little different this time – not just a nap – we had jamas on! She was NOT interested in a bath so we just put jamas on, brushed teeth and off to bed. We got teddy, dolly, tiger, and bunny and some of her music and she was very happy to go to sleep. She visited with her “friends” for about 10 minutes and next time I checked she was sound asleep!
I woke up a couple times in the night and checked to see how she was doing and she had moved in a couple odd positions all around the bed but was sleeping soundly. Well, she slept until 7:30 in the morning and woke up happy and ready to play. She wasn't too interested in breakfast but around 9:00 I cut up some strawberries and bananas and that was a hit. We went to see Jackson's flag football game at 11:00 (which he won and had a great game personally) and then came home for lunch. Time for a nap – slept an hour and a half. We played – watched Curious George – and then off to see Nana and Papa's friends for dinner. They had a little puppy named Tucker and KP loved him! They were instant friends. Kaitlyn was pretty shy for the first hour and then she warmed up to everybody (3 new couples) and they couldn't believe how cute she was – of course!!
We headed home about 7:30. Kaitlyn again didn't want a bath so no big deal – she's at Nana and Papa's......she's the boss right? Brushed her teeth, read some books, gathered our animals and time for jamas. When she laid down she asked where mommy and daddy were – I told her you were coming to get her tomorrow …..........she said “aha at 7:30” Not too cute. Once again – put her music on and she was off to dreamland. This is a breeze!!
7:15 – Kaitlyn's awake!! She had another great night............got up and had a nice little “cuddle” time reading books and waking up. After telling me she didn't like yogurt we had a banana and she gobbled a bowl full of yogurt. Silly girl. We had a bath this morning – well kinda. For some reason she just isn't interested in a bath at Nana and Papas. We managed to get her hair washed and she was done. Curious George visited as I got her hair done.......(not as good as mommy does).
It was raining a bit but we decided to take a walk anyway. We went to Starbucks and got a “birthday pink donut:. A big hit! Then we went to Kohl's and rode the escalator, walked a bit and gave up. Came home and colored, worked the sticker book, played with the cars and HER toys. Soon it was time for lunch.......how about Arby's? Kaitlyn said she wanted mustard, ketchup, and a sandwich. She had a beef sandwich (well 2 bites), a potato cake, and alot of fun, There was another little girl there named Kaitlyn and she was intrigued by that. Time for a nap and guess who is coming when you wake up.................Mommy and Daddy!!!
It was a fun weekend Kaitlyn....................thanks for coming to see Nana and Papa. We can't wait until you come to AZ soon to visit again. We love you to the moon and back! Nana and Papa

Thinking and Green Sheep
So this is going to be two posts in one.
Thinking:
Last night Kaitlyn and I were having a fabulous time together as she splashed around and played in the bath. We'd played quite a bit with her toys, practiced blowing bubbles for swimming lessons, and just splashed around. Then she started to play by herself for a bit so I let my mind wander to work stuff and what I needed to get done once Kaitlyn was in bed. She looked up at me and said, "What's Mommy thinking?" She then placed her pointer-finger on her chin and says, 'Hmmmm...' It's amazing to me how smart little people are. We definitely don't give them enough credit!
Where is the Green Sheep?
Kaitlyn, Auntie Jen, and I headed into Seattle today in search of the green sheep. And we found that sheep at the children's theater. I'm sure many of you are scratching your heads right now and thinking that we're just crazy. Well, Where is the Green Sheep? is a wonderful children's book written by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek. It's also a favorite of KP's and one that she knows by heart and can 'read' all by herself. The children's theater put on an absolutely amazing show based on the book and Kaitlyn was delighted through the whole thing. It was so fun to see her expressions as she took in the show. Kaitlyn's first theater experience was definitely a success!

Kaitlyn's First Day of School
Today was Kaitlyn's first day of Todschool. We'd been talking about this all weekend with her and she was quite excited. In fact, when the time came and I said, 'Kaitlyn time to go to school' she ran to the door and then to the car. She was giddy when she saw the room and all the great stuff she could play with. And when it came time for me to leave, she really couldn't be bothered to care too much. A simple, 'bye Mommy' was all I got. But I LOVE that independence! Way to go KP!

Annual Girls Weekend
A few weekends ago we made our annual trip to Spokane with the girls. I obviously dropped the ball because I only got a handful of pictures - thank goodness Jen took many, many more. I'll have to grab her SD card. I personally think she's just trying to show me up though...she got lots more pictures and posted to her blog within the week about our trip. Don't I look like a slacker?! :)
Anyways, the trip started off with our Horizon flight being cancelled. Good news though, they reaccommodated us on an Alaska flight for the same exact time. So no biggie and the girls had a blast on the bigger plane.
Grammy Jill was waiting for us at the Spokane airport and whisked us away for our exciting Spokane happenings. And as you can imagine with a 2-year old and a 6-year old it was a fun and not so fun roller coaster of a weekend. One minute all is well, the next we've got tears or tired kiddos pushed to their limits. The most amusing part was watching these two girls act just like siblings; hugging and loving each other and then irritated and tattling. Classic!
Trip ended with yet again our Horizon flight being cancelled. This time they reaccommodated us on a Alaska flight...much later. Thankfully Grammy Jill came back to the airport to rescue us. The girls didn't seem to mind as it meant getting in a few more carousel rides at Riverfront Park and some yummy lunch.
Thanks Mom, Jennifer, Emily, and Kaitlyn for all the fun and wonderful memories! Although I came home exhausted, I'm already looking forward to our trip next year!

Movie night with popcorn and all...what's better than a big hotel bed that you can make all messy with dropped popcorn?! Well, the fact that it was Jen's bed and not mine was beautiful!
Anyways, the trip started off with our Horizon flight being cancelled. Good news though, they reaccommodated us on an Alaska flight for the same exact time. So no biggie and the girls had a blast on the bigger plane.
