Grammy Jill's Birthday Celebration
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRAMMY JILL!!!
Kaitlyn was in heaven today. She LOVES birthday celebrations and today we headed to the Mosers to celebrate Grammy Jill's birthday. Jen, thanks for hosting such a great brunch!
We were in charge of the cake so on Friday Kaitlyn and I went and ordered it from our yummy bakery at Safeway. Seriously, they make the tastiest cakes! Kaitlyn picked out the cake all by herself...and then for the next two days kept asking me if it was ready yet. The cutest was when I was putting her to bed on Saturday night and told her she needed to get a good nights sleep because we had a big celebration planned for Sunday. As I was going to head out the door I blew her a kiss and she said in the sweetest voice, 'Mommy, is the cake ready?'
Love all these pictures but because of how excited Kaitlyn was to pick out the cake and how anxious she was to know when it was done, the last one just fills me with pure joy because it's clear that she has such a love and longing for this cake! :)

Hide and Skype and Seek
Not sure why we didn't of this sooner. Tonight we played a hilarious game with Kaitlyn. Ryan took his laptop upstairs and I stayed downstairs with my laptop. Using video skype Kaitlyn and I would call Ryan and we'd have Kaitlyn guess which room he was in based on what we saw in the background and then Kaitlyn would run up to go find him and tickle him. The workout she got from running up and down the stairs was phenomenal. Soon we abandoned skype and just did a modified form of the phone game with Kaitlyn running up and down to pass along the messages. Pretty fun and funny!

Forever
Today was not my favorite day. Not even close. It was a struggle and made me question lots of things. However, what I don't ever question is how special and amazing Kaitlyn is and how blessed we are to have her. We were going upstairs tonight and she stopped on the bottom stair and held her hand out to me. She said, 'Mommy hold my hand.' I told her that I'd love to hold her hand. To which she replied, 'Mommy, you can hold my hand forever!' Kaitlyn, I will happily hold your hand forever and ever!

Pancakes
Clutter really drives me crazy! Anyone who has had a 2-year old knows that keeping your house neat and organized is truly impossible. In my earlier days (college times to KP times) I was an organization/clean freak. In fact, that was the whole reason I didn't move in with Mary O'Malley back in college (inside joke for Jen and Mom). Okay, that and the fact that her closet was a drive-through pharmacy of drugs and the 'view' from her apartment was a planter box of flowers on a cement slab. But I digress.
I've learned to let the clutter thing go a bit, although on occasion it'll still get the best of me and then I'll go on an organizing spree. However, it does crack me up because perhaps I haven't let it go as much as I thought as Kaitlyn often says, 'I'm organizing these things'. LOL!
Anyways, most times I just glaze over all of KP's toys when they somehow find their way outside of the nice box or cubby or organization unit I originally put them in. And other times, I take note and I'm just amused by it. So here's an example. I initially stepped over these items (picture below) in the middle of the bathroom without a thought. But as I was going to the bathroom, I focused in on them. I was curious to ask Kaitlyn to tell me the story of what was going on here because she'd tell me a big, long, funny story about it. However, she was napping and I figured it best not to wake her. Thus, I came up with my own interpretation. Wanna take a shot at yours? Here's the scene.
Here's my take:
Baby doll had to go to the bathroom, of course. But note, in dolly land it's obviously the case that you go potty wearing your fashion jewelry (note the 'Emily' bracelet around her wrist) and ONLY your fashion jewelry. As for the duckies and why they are laying on their side, well I have two theories:
1. Baby doll has quite the lean going on. I'm thinking her pee shot out past the potty chair and knocked over the ducks.
OR
2. The other day Kaitlyn told Ryan that her poopies smelled like pancakes (had I been there, I would've asked 'with syrup or without?'). Anyways, I'm thinking the baby's pancake poopies were so stinky it knocked the ducks over.
Either way, this post makes me realize that I need to get out of the house more.

Desperately Seeking Sunshine
Lately, to keep Kaitlyn entertained while driving we pretend we're on a roller coaster and really play up all the hills (ups and downs) and curvy roads. She thinks it's great fun to go 'weeeeee' as we 'fly' through the roads. It's actually pretty cute. But as I sit here and reflect, I have to say that life has been a bit of a roller coaster ride around here. This last month has really been a challenge. It's been one of highs and lows and trying to remember how good we really have it even when it seems, well downright depressing.
HIGHS:
We had a sleepover with Ms. Emily a couple weeks ago. Kaitlyn was soooo stinkin' excited and my heart melted when I peeked in at night and saw both of them asleep and snuggled together.
We actually got an adult evening out with Jen and Chris. I can't remember the last time we had adult time. So fantastically wonderful. We headed to Harmon Brewery and threw back a few beers and enjoyed lots of laughter. I didn't even have to bring stickers, markers, books and no need to ask for a kid menu. Wahooey!
I'm really blessed with all the time I get to spend with Kaitlyn. She's saying and doing the funniest things. The potty chats are the best, and the poopy and pee talk is stuff that seriously can't be made up but I'll spare you the specifics. Oh, the joy of the uninhibited 2-year old.
Some of my favorite conversations lately that are blog worthy:
'No Mommy, I don't want my stuffed doggy, I want an ACTUAL one! Let's go get an actual one NOW!'
'Yes, we can sit here but in the meantime let's play ball'.
'I can hardly wait!'
And one that really cracked me up as we were going down a big hill, 'Hold on, Grammy Jill'...in a very concerned tone. I must say it sounded like she was judging my driving skills. LOL!
And my favorite from today:
Kaitlyn and Ryan were out driving around the neighborhood without me.
Kaitlyn: How are we going to get home?
Ryan: I know how to get home.
Kaitlyn: Oh, we're lost (very sad tone used)
Ryan: We're not lost
Kaitlyn: I really miss Mommy
LOWS:
The weather for sure! I truly think I have a bit of SAD (seasonal affect disorder) and the constant grey and rain has been very wearing. The two times the sun has come out over the last several months, I was out basking in it in hopes of soaking in some happiness.
Flu and cold bugs have been loving our house. I was sick at least three times this winter, once ending up at the doctor for antibiotics. Ryan has had ongoing sinus issues for 2 months now and finally went to get antibiotics. Funny enough, Kaitlyn has escaped most of what we've been dealing with. Thank goodness for that!
And the thing I'm most sad to write about...we just found out that our wonderful, creative, caring nanny, Karen, will be leaving us. We're thrilled for her as she pursues other interests but we are so incredibly sad to be losing her. She's been with us since Kaitlyn was 6 months old. She will truly be missed!!! It really breaks my heart to even think about this. Her ideas and her insights have made me a better Mom for sure. And I can't even imagine how we're going to find a replacement. But I keep telling myself that life is about change and I need to embrace it (yes, and then I also recognize how full of crap I am - lol!).
Here's hoping that the sun comes out and life is happy!

Birthdays + Bouncy House = Big Hit
A few weekends ago Kaitlyn was invited to Joseph's 3-year birthday party (a boy from her preschool). Once I saw that it was at the bouncy house, I knew we had to go because Kaitlyn LOVES those places. Not only did she have fun, but surprisingly, I did as well. Enjoy these sweet pictures of the party and Kaitlyn's new BFF from preschool, Makena. Funny enough, it's only taken us 8 months to figure out that Makena only lives one street away from us!
