When planning trips we often ponder over all our favorites. Many times it ends up coming down to Maui or San Diego. Although we do like to throw in other destinations just to keep us trying new things. Nonetheless, over the years with the flight to Maui being so long (and expensive) and hotels incredibly pricey we've always tried to talk ourselves into the idea that San Diego is just as great as Maui. After our last trip, I can no longer live the lie. Now don't get me wrong. San Diego is fantastic but it is no Maui! Maui wins this contest hands-down!
In late October we had the pleasure of enjoying 9 days and 8 nights of pure island bliss. Of course we had our share of reality, too. I mean come on, we had a 5-year old with us! But for the most part it was really great.
Highlights include our condo, The Whaler. Amazing location and amazing panaromic views of both the ocean and the mountains! Plus, we could sit on our deck and listen to the live music from the Hula Grill. LOVED that! Definitely headed back there again. Also, fish tacos at Leilani's (my new favorite), amazing sunsets, warm sunshine, huge 5-year old giggles running in and out of the ocean, pool time, KP feeding the koi fish every morning, KP making friends with other kiddos staying at our condo, fun shopping and great food. And best of all, Grammy Jill joined us for a few days in there too.
Lowlights: Trip back. Plane problems that equated to a VERY long delay, an extra hop over to Honolulu and many, many hours of uncertainty. For a while it appeared we'd be staying the night in Honolulu. Thankfully though they got us out of there and 19 hours later we were home. Two cool things to come out of it though. One, Kaitlyn did amazing! Proves that she's ready for an international trip, I think. :) And two, we got a nice little chunk of change in credit from Alaska for the inconvenience. Ah, time to start planning our next getaway! :)
Mahalo Maui! I hope to be back soon.
Enjoy the pics!
